Leiden hosts pro-Palestinian demonstration
Hundreds of people participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration through the city center of Leiden on Saturday. The march was organized by more than thirty organizations, including Global Sumud Netherlands, Erev Rav, and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Approximately 300 people gathered at Lammermarkt around 2:00 PM before the procession moved through the Beestenmarkt, Haarlemmerstraat, and Hooigracht. The protest concluded back at Lammermarkt in the evening.
During the march, demonstrators called for boycotts of Israeli companies and businesses they claim are complicit in the occupation of Gaza. Specific calls were made to avoid purchasing products from McDonald's and Coca-Cola, as well as agricultural products grown in Israel, such as dates. The BDS movement specifically alleged that McDonald's Israel provides free meals to the Israeli military.
