Leiden police use flashbang during apartment intervention
Police and the Special Interventions Service (Dienst Speciale Interventies) conducted an operation at an apartment on Julianakade in Leiden on Thursday evening, September 17.
The intervention was triggered after an ambulance was dispatched to a residence involving an individual exhibiting unexplained behavior. Fearing the situation could escalate, authorities deployed multiple units, a negotiator, and the Special Interventions Service, which arrived with at least nine vehicles.
To gain access to the third-floor apartment, an arrest team utilized a flashbang thrown from a balcony above. The device disoriented the individual, allowing them to be safely transferred to the care of ambulance services. Firefighters remained on standby during the incident, and local residents were kept at a distance to avoid provoking the individual.
