Leiden Train Service Disrupted After Track Collision, Buses Overcrowded

On the evening of 25 July, a collision on the railway near De Vink station caused multiple trains to be cancelled between Leiden and The Hague. Services to Dordrecht, The Hague and Amsterdam were severely reduced, prompting the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) to advise passengers to use replacement buses. The limited bus frequency quickly led to overcrowding at Leiden Central’s bus stop, with some buses displaying signs indicating they were full. NS expected normal train operations to resume after 23:00.

The incident highlighted the vulnerability of commuter transport in the South Holland region during unexpected rail disruptions.
