Leiden's LGBTQ+ hub De Roze Beurs to close after 24 years
De Roze Beurs, a longtime meeting place for the LGBTQ+ community in Leiden, will close its doors permanently on 15 August 2026. Owner Michiel Hoogkamer, who has run the café for more than two decades, is stepping away after failing to find a successor. He said, “I want to try something else; the nightlife is wearing me out.”
The venue, known for its role in local Pride events, the Lakenfeesten and other celebrations, is seen as a "second living room" for many patrons. Regulars expressed disappointment, noting the café’s importance as a safe space. After the final celebration night, the premises will be cleared and an open auction on 20 August will sell fixtures such as mirrors, décor and a dance pole.
