Leidse Zwemvierdaagse celebrates 50th anniversary

The Leidse Zwemvierdaagse is celebrating its golden jubilee edition, marking 50 years since the event began in 1975. Organized by Stichting Sport in Beeld, the competition is scheduled to start on Monday, August 24.

Participants swim 500 meters over four evenings, with the option to spread the distance over five nights. Those who complete the required distance on at least four evenings receive the traditional swimming medal. To mark the anniversary, Mayor Peter Heijkoop will officially start the event at 19:00 on the first evening, with up to 750 swimmers expected at the De Vliet outdoor pool.

Additionally, the final evening on Friday, August 28, will host the second edition of the Leids Kampioenschap Bommetje, a separate competition for which participants can register independently.
