Leipzig and Bergkamen remove overflowing clothing containers

The city of Leipzig has temporarily removed 31 overfilled clothing containers after persistent littering problems and illegal waste dumping, and is reviewing a further 15 sites. The removal is linked to stricter EU regulations, falling revenues in the used‑textile market and the illegal disposal of bulky waste. Leipzig officials say they will tighten inspections, though the future of the collection system beyond 2028 remains uncertain.

In the neighboring town of Bergkamen, an overfilled clothing container at a closed supermarket parking lot is slated for removal after the local waste operator Entsorgungsbetrieb Bergkamen (EBB) sent formal notices requesting its clearance.
