Leipzig awarded Honorary Flag of the Council of Europe

The city of Leipzig has been awarded the Honorary Flag of the Council of Europe. Heike Engelhardt, an honorary member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, presented the flag to Leipzig's Culture Mayor, Dr. Skadi Jennicke.

This award is the second of four recognition levels on the path toward the Council of Europe Prize. It recognizes Leipzig's long-standing commitment to municipal European work, city partnership cooperation, and international solidarity. The city previously received the Council of Europe Diploma in Strasbourg last year.

As part of its ongoing international engagement, Leipzig is set to expand its circle of partner cities by signing a partnership agreement with Yerevan, Armenia, on October 5, 2026.
