Leipzig exhibition spotlights disabled lives in war zones
A free, barrier‑free exhibition opens in Leipzig from 3 to 27 August 2026, showcasing 18 life‑size photographs of people with disabilities whose lives have been shaped by war, displacement and violence. The images portray individuals from the Gaza Strip, Ukraine, refugee camps in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, as well as Vietnam and Laos, highlighting loss, vulnerability and resilience.
The project was created in partnership between award‑winning photojournalist Till Mayer and the humanitarian organization Handicap International. To ensure accessibility, the exhibition offers materials in easy‑read language, QR‑codes for further information, and a web‑app audio guide for blind and visually impaired visitors. The opening ceremony on Monday, 3 August 2026 at 16:00 is hosted by Dr. Daria Luchnikova, the municipal commissioner for people with disabilities. Mayer will give a public talk on 6 August 2026 at 15:30 in the New Town Hall (room 270). The exhibition is open free of charge during the town hall’s regular hours (Monday‑Thursday 07:00‑18:00, Friday 07:00‑16:00).
