Leipzig honors local initiatives with family-friendliness awards

The city of Leipzig has honored local initiatives through its family-friendliness awards, aimed at promoting equal opportunities and combating child poverty. Vicki Felthaus, the Mayor and Deputy for Youth, School, and Democracy, emphasized that these awards recognize individuals working to ensure all children can participate in society regardless of their socioeconomic status.

In the ‘Recognition’ category, Ferienland e. V. received a prize of 2,500 euros. The volunteer-run association has spent over three decades organizing holiday trips for children and adolescents from socially and financially disadvantaged backgrounds, including summer camps in Bohemian Switzerland and the Thuringian Forest.

The ‘Innovation’ category award, also worth 2,500 euros, was presented to the ‘KUKU Welcome Package’ by einfach machbar e. V. This initiative provides support and guidance to families with babies who are blind or have severe visual impairments.
