Leipzig hosts events for Climate Adaptation Week 2026

The city of Leipzig and various local actors are participating in the fourth Climate Adaptation Week, a nationwide initiative by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment. The program aims to increase visibility for climate adaptation ideas, concepts, and measures across Germany.

Key activities in Leipzig include a focus on green roofs to increase urban climate resilience, featuring a guided tour of the research green roof at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research. Other scheduled events include a discussion on how Leipzig is preparing for hot summers through the “Sponge City” concept, excursions regarding forests in climate change, and telephone consultations regarding subsidies for greening projects. The week runs parallel to the European Mobility Week, which promotes environmentally friendly transportation.
