Leipzig launches ‘Tacheles’ theme year to honor Jewish history
The city of Leipzig has launched ‘Tacheles’, a municipal theme year dedicated to celebrating and remembering Jewish life and its historical impact on the region. The program features over 100 events, including various museum exhibitions and musical performances scheduled through the end of the year.
Key upcoming exhibitions include ‘Festgehalten. Verschleppt aus Deutschland 1938–1945’ at the Ariowitsch-Haus, and ‘Vier Wände voller Kunst’ at the Museum of Fine Arts. Musical highlights include the ‘Leipziger Notenbogen’ opening in September and the ‘Con spirito’ chamber music festival.
In a related effort to preserve local heritage, the Berend Lehmann Museum has announced its 2026 project, ‘Offene jüdische Häuser’. This initiative will focus on the history of the Hascharath Zwi Jewish school, highlighting its pedagogical approach and its integration within the local community.
