Leipzig invests in music industry and emerging talent

The city of Leipzig is investing in its music industry and emerging talents to strengthen its economic and artistic standing. This initiative follows studies titled ‘Musikwirtschaft in Leipzig – Status Quo und Potenziale’ and ‘Club- und Livemusikspielstätten Leipzig’ (CLIV), which were commissioned by the Culture Office and Economic Development department.

The research indicates that while Leipzig has strong foundations in artists, live music venues, and music education, there is significant potential for growth in music recording and publishing. To address this, the city will implement measures such as showcase performances for local musicians at supra-regional industry events, delegation trips to major music conferences, internationalization workshops, and an idea pitch for regional music businesses.

Cultural Mayor Dr. Skadi Jennicke emphasized the goal of making Leipzig a hub where more music is produced, published, and distributed globally. Economic Mayor Clemens Schülke noted that the strategy aims to foster innovation and jobs in sectors such as tourism, digitalization, and media through stronger networking between industries.
