Leipzig launches public initiative to create official city perfume

The city of Leipzig has launched a project to create its first official city perfume. Residents are invited to participate in an online survey, running until October 9, 2026, to provide inspiration for the scent. Suggested themes include linden blossoms, city coffee, wet leaves in the forest, or local landmarks like Cospuden Lake.

The project is led by the Leipzig-based company Bell Flavors and Fragrances, a firm with nearly 200 years of experience in producing aromas and fragrances for food and personal care products. Following the survey, perfumers will evaluate the responses and conduct sensory tests to develop scent directions.

A final decision will be made by the public. Between October 24 and November 6, 2026, the two most suitable fragrance creations will be presented at various locations in Leipzig's city center for citizens to vote on. The final scent composition is expected to be completed by March 2027.
