Leipzig opens European Mobility Week at Nathanaelkirche

The city of Leipzig has opened the 2026 European Mobility Week at Nathanaelkirche. The event highlights sustainable urban development and innovative mobility solutions, specifically honoring the efforts of the Nathanaelkirchplatz initiative.

As part of the opening, the initiative demonstrated how the square could be transformed into a social meeting point using flower boxes and seating. Current planning aims to reduce through-traffic in the coming years and introduce new trees to improve the local microclimate. While a final decision on the redesign has not yet been made, the project seeks to foster dialogue between municipal offices and local citizens.

The European Mobility Week, an initiative of the European Commission, focuses on promoting sustainable mobility and innovative transport solutions across Europe. This year’s theme is ‘Mobility across Generations’.
