Leipzig opens Halle 7 innovation center at Baumwollspinnerei
The city of Leipzig has opened the Halle 7 innovation center at the Baumwollspinnerei site to support economic development and startup growth. The project involved a two-year construction period with 17.8 million euros invested in the innovation center itself. This follows previous investments of approximately 13.9 million euros for building shell renovations and theater space expansion.
Funding for the project was provided through 7.2 million euros from the 'Stadtumbau Ost' program and 3 million euros from the city of Leipzig. The center aims to prevent the migration of young companies by providing flexible office and development spaces, access to capital, and connections to established businesses and scientific partners.
To facilitate scaling and growth, the center will host formats that connect startups with potential customers and investors, including TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen and SI Ventures. The initiative is intended to accelerate market entry for innovations and create new jobs and value within the region.
