Leipzig Opera Ball celebrates Thessaloniki partnership

The 31st Leipzig Opera Ball took place at the Oper Leipzig, hosting approximately 2,000 to 3,000 guests. Under the motto ‘Kalispéra Thessaloniki!’, the event honored the 42-year city partnership between Leipzig, Germany, and Thessaloniki, Greece.

The evening featured Mediterranean-inspired decor, performances by the Leipzig Ballet and opera soloists, and musical acts including singer Clueso and soul artist Leslie Clio. Notable attendees included actress Simone Thomalla, singer Jenny Elvers, and various political figures from Saxony.

In addition to cultural exchange, the event served social and economic purposes. Thessaloniki Mayor Stelios Angeloudis met with Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung to discuss cooperation in tourism, culture, and innovation. A charity tombola, which included a Porsche Macan valued at 113,000 euros as the grand prize, supported the ‘Leipzig hilft Kindern’ foundation.
