Leipzig performance duo and Duisburg beer garden highlight German cultural scene

Clara Minckwitz and Julia Lehmann, a Leipzig‑based performance duo, have been creating site‑specific theatre in public spaces for twelve years. Their work examines everyday urban environments, turning locations such as a former housing estate and a train station into stages. In May they will present the piece “Nach der Bahn die Wende” at the Schreberbad, continuing their focus on societal themes through immersive walks and performances.

In Duisburg’s Neudorf district, the Finkenkrug bar and beer garden draws a mixed crowd with an estimated 300 beer varieties on offer. Owner Victor Hansmann confirms the range fluctuates between 280 and 350 depending on season. The garden features a seasonal coconut beer served in a coconut shell and the world‑strong Schorschbock 57, a 57 % ABV brew that costs €33 for a small glass. As a patron puts it, “Es gibt hier einfach so einen eigenen Vibe.”
