Leipzig to host 2026 conference on Jewish city history

The 2026 Day of City History in Leipzig will focus on the Jewish history of the city as part of the Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony. The event, titled ‘Tacheles der jüdischen Geschichte Leipzigs’, aims to examine Jewish life across various eras and provide new perspectives on the city’s history.

Key thematic focuses include relationship stories and supra-regional connections. The program will also investigate previously less-examined periods, such as the immediate post-war era and the GDR. For the first time, schools will be included in the event to engage different generations in dialogue.

The conference will feature current research and utilize sources from the Leipzig City Archive. Barbara Schwarz is scheduled to present findings based on both new and existing archival materials. The event is set to take place on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Alte Börse Leipzig.
