Leipzig to Raise Small Garden Lease Fees Starting 2027
The City of Leipzig plans to adjust the lease rates for its small‑garden plots beginning in the 2027 fiscal year. Based on a valuation report issued on 21 March 2025, the legal maximum lease price will be set at 21 cents per square metre per year, which translates to an extra cost of roughly €22 per average 250‑m² garden.
Leipzig owns about 800 ha of the city’s total 1,200 ha of small‑garden land, most of which is leased through the Stadtverband Leipzig der Kleingärtner e. V. and the Kreisverband Leipzig der Kleingärtner Westsachsen e. V. The higher rates are expected to increase annual municipal revenue from garden leases by around €694 000, reaching roughly €1.62 million, which will remain in the city budget to support the small‑garden programme under the Federal Small Garden Act.
