Leipzig's GRASSI Museum to host Erich Mendelsohn documentary

The GRASSI Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Leipzig will host a screening of the documentary ‘Erich Mendelsohn – Visionen für die Ewigkeit’ on September 22, 2026. Part of the ‘Architecture in Film’ series, the film by Israeli director Duki Dror provides a portrait of the renowned architect Erich Mendelsohn and his wife, Luise, utilizing their memoirs and correspondence.

Mendelsohn was a globally sought-after architect known for expressionist works, including the Einstein Observatory in Potsdam. Due to his Jewish heritage, he was removed from the Prussian Academy of Arts in 1933 and later relocated to England and the United States.

The event will include a presentation by building culture coordinator Nora Gitter and a talk by Leipzig photographer Louis Volkmann regarding architectural photography between modernity and the present day.
