Leipzig's Harkortstraße reopens after road and bicycle lane upgrades
Traffic on Harkortstraße in Leipzig is set to resume on August 21 following extensive road surface renovations and infrastructure upgrades. The project, managed by the Mobility and Civil Engineering Office, follows modernization work on drinking water pipes conducted by the Leipzig Waterworks.
In addition to repairing the road surface between Riemannstraße and Martin-Luther-Ring, the city has implemented new bicycle lanes in both directions up to Paul-Gruner-Straße. This move aims to improve safety for cyclists by addressing a long-standing gap in the city's primary bicycle network. The final segment of the bicycle lane, connecting Paul-Gruner-Straße to Wundt-/Dufourstraße, is planned for completion in 2027, which will require adjustments to the local traffic light system.
