Spanish municipalities host various traditional patron saint festivals
Various municipalities in Spain are hosting traditional patron saint festivities and local celebrations.
In Ponferrada, the Encina festivals have commenced with a parade of 81 social clubs (peñas) and an official proclamation by Félix Antonio Barrio Juárez, the Director General of the National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe). The program includes sports tournaments and traditional festivities.
Los Montesinos has announced its 2026 schedule for the festivities in honor of the Virgin of the Pillar, featuring events such as a procession, a float parade, and community dinners scheduled between late September and early October.
In Astorga, the Santa Marta festivities are entering their final stages, highlighted by the ‘Noche Larga’ event featuring live music and a large-scale disco. The schedule also includes chess tournaments, workshops, and local sports.
Additionally, Torrecaballeros is celebrating its patron saint festivals with a program of religious services, traditional rope pulling, costume contests, and musical performances scheduled through the weekend.
