Leiria district fraud schemes involve €10,000 scam and false theft report

In Rio Maior, a woman was deceived by two men who pretended to be emergency workers after a staged vehicle collision. They convinced her that a GPS sensor had been damaged and demanded payment of €55 for a replacement, ultimately obtaining €10,000 from her bank card.

In a separate case in Leiria, a 25‑year‑old woman was arrested by the Polícia de Segurança Pública after she admitted to fabricating a theft of €980 from her wallet. Police surveillance and witness testimony found no evidence of the alleged robbery, leading to her detention for simulating a crime.

Both incidents illustrate a rise in fraudulent schemes and false crime reports in the Leiria district, prompting police warnings about the misuse of resources and the legal consequences of false accusations.
