Leiston Book Festival returns to Suffolk with nature theme

The Leiston Book Festival is returning for its third year in Suffolk, scheduled to take place at the Leiston Film Theatre on September 19. The event is noted as the UK's first book festival dedicated exclusively to literature concerning the natural world, environment, and the relationship between humanity and nature.

The programme features several prominent authors, including Louis de Bernières, who will launch his new book, ‘Smelling of Rooks’. Other speakers include Bishop Graham Usher, who will discuss the spirituality of walking, and Matt Gaw, author of the 2025 New Angle Prize-shortlisted book ‘In All Weathers’. The festival also includes contributions from Deborah Tomkins and Jacky Colliss Harvey.

Founder Robert Ashton stated that the town of Leiston, with its history of industrial and social innovation, provided a fitting backdrop for the festival. The event aims to encourage attendees to appreciate the natural beauty and environmental details of the surrounding area.
