Leitner touts Montenegro’s Kotor‑Lovćen cable car as first step in broader Balkan investments
Martin Leitner, president of the board of XExperience and co‑owner of the Italian cable‑car company Leitner, said the newly completed Kotor‑Lovćen cable car marks a major shift for the firm from a pure equipment supplier to a long‑term investor in Montenegro. He highlighted the country’s stability, reliable local partners and efficient administration as key reasons for the investment. The project, built quickly despite a lack of access roads, power supply and its proximity to a national park, demonstrates the importance of strong public‑private cooperation.
Leitner explained that the next phase will extend the line to Cetinje, improving transport links there, and that the company plans further projects in ski resort development, hydro‑energy, wind power and sustainable mobility across the Balkans. Leitner’s firm, headquartered in Italy, installs around one hundred cable cars worldwide each year, from New Zealand to Canada, and views the Kotor‑Lovćen line as a flagship example of its global portfolio.
