Leixões movable bridge in Matosinhos reopens on August 14

The Leixões movable bridge linking Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira, closed for maintenance on 15 June, will reopen to vehicular and pedestrian traffic on 14 August, a month earlier than planned. The Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo (APDL) said the accelerated schedule results from rapid work progress and the effort of all teams involved.

The 14‑month modernization project, costing €4.5 million (part of a €5.63 million EU‑funded programme), includes anticorrosive protection, repainting and structural upgrades to improve safety, reliability and longevity. APDL provided a free transport service for walkers, cyclists and scooter users until 20 August. The works are overseen by APDL director João Pedro Neves and are described as a strategic investment for daily mobility of thousands of residents and the operation of the Port of Leixões.
