L'Eliana discovers Spanish Civil War air raid shelter

During pedestrianization and urban reorganization works at the intersection of Major and General Pastor streets in L'Eliana, a Spanish Civil War air raid shelter has been discovered.

Archaeologist Carlos Verdasco conducted an initial inspection, noting that the structure appears to have significant depth. Preliminary assessments suggest the shelter may consist of a single gallery that opens into a larger chamber designed to protect residents during bombings. It is currently unknown if the structure includes a second exit.

The local government has notified the Heritage area of the Conselleria de Cultura. Planned next steps include removing accumulated debris, performing a thorough cleaning, and conducting detailed inspections using cameras, photography, measurements, and mapping to document the site. Mayor Salva Torrent emphasized the historical value of the find and the necessity of its preservation, noting that it adds to the existing Civil War heritage in the municipality, which includes trenches and other known shelters.
