Lelouma faces severe teacher shortage in schools
The Lelouma prefecture is experiencing a critical shortage of educators, leaving hundreds of children without access to schooling. According to Mamadou Oury Diallo, the interim prefectural director of education, there is a deficit of 460 teachers needed for elementary schools and 96 for secondary education.
Out of 855 pedagogical groups across 237 elementary schools, only 395 permanent teachers are currently available. This shortage has resulted in the closure of two primary schools—Hakkou Pellé in Sagalé and Yambou in Linsan—which have remained non-functional since last year.
As a result, more than 560 children enrolled for first-grade studies have been unable to attend school. The crisis affects all 11 rural communes within the prefecture. Diallo has called for state intervention, specifically requesting that the government take responsibility for the salaries of contract teachers to help bridge the gap.
