Lemon and vinegar home hacks gain popularity in Slovenia and Serbia
Social media users in Slovenia share a simple home tip: place a dish of lemon slices drenched in a little vinegar on a windowsill. The mixture is said to freshen indoor air, neutralise unpleasant odors and, by its strong scent, deter insects such as ants and fruit flies. Experts note the effects are not scientifically verified but the method is cheap and natural.
In Serbia a similar DIY approach uses half a lemon pressed against the faucet filter to dissolve limescale buildup. After a few minutes the lemon is removed and hot water is run to clear the tap. The same acidic fruit is also promoted for cleaning cutting boards, whitening laundry by boiling clothes with lemon slices, and restoring the shine of plastic containers. While the claims lack formal testing, many households report satisfactory results from these inexpensive, everyday ingredients.
