Lemon peel and baking soda as a natural cleaning remedy

Combining lemon peel with baking soda serves as a natural method for cleaning and deodorizing household surfaces. Unlike using lemon juice, which reacts with the alkaline baking soda to create effervescence and neutralize both components, using only the zest preserves the aromatic essential oils like limonene.

To prepare the mixture, finely grate the lemon peel—avoiding the white pith—and mix it with a few tablespoons of baking soda. The combination can be used as a dry powder or turned into a soft paste by adding a small amount of water. This mixture is particularly effective for cleaning stainless steel sinks to remove minor residues and neutralize odors. It is recommended to prepare only the amount needed for immediate use to maintain freshness.
