Lempuyangan Station redevelopment to focus on passenger services

PT KAI Daop 6 Jogja is undertaking a phased redevelopment of Lempuyangan Station in Yogyakarta, aiming to transform it into a facility dedicated exclusively to passenger services by 2028. As part of this restructuring, existing freight services at the station will be diverted to Brambanan Station.

The redevelopment includes the construction of a new 394-meter-long and 9-meter-wide road designed to separate passenger access from public traffic. To facilitate this, 11 company-owned buildings were demolished, though officials confirmed these structures were not classified as cultural heritage sites.

The new layout will feature two distinct access points: a southern area dedicated to long-distance trains and a northern area for local trains and the Yogyakarta-Palur KRL Commuterline. This reorganization aims to manage increasing passenger volumes, which grew from approximately 5.39 million in 2024 to 5.6 million in 2025.
