León Airport cargo terminal request seeks 50 million euro investment

The citizen platform ‘Más Vuelos, más futuro para León’ is requesting that Aena include 50 million euros in its Airport Regulation Document (DORA III) for the 2027-2031 period to establish a cargo terminal at León Airport. This facility would serve as the only cargo terminal in northwestern Spain.

The Spanish Council of Ministers is expected to approve Aena’s investment plan, totaling 12.888 billion euros, in late September. While the current proposal allocates 16.3 million euros for the expansion of the airport platform, the group argues that a larger investment is necessary to transform the airport into an economic driver for the peninsula.

Supporters of the project highlighted that León hosts 40 percent of the chemical-pharmaceutical companies in its region, making the cargo infrastructure vital for local industry. Additionally, representatives called for the airport's management consortium to be led by a professional from the aeronautical sector.
