León Animal Welfare Center reaches 80 percent capacity
The Animal Welfare Center in León is currently operating at 80 percent capacity for the sheltering of dogs and cats. The remaining 20 percent of the population consists of pets voluntarily surrendered by owners or animals reported in street situations.
Juan Bustamante Noriega, director of Municipal Health in León, stated that the center receives between 300 and 350 reports of various types monthly. A significant portion of these reports originates from the city's peripheral areas. While the center conducts talks on responsible pet ownership to discourage abandonment, many owners continue to leave pets at the facility.
To manage the population, the center holds weekly adoption events, including sessions at Panorama Park on Sundays. Approximately 30 to 40 animals find new homes each month.
