León announces 27th Festival de la Muerte with over 200 activities
The municipality of León has announced the 27th edition of the Festival de la Muerte, scheduled to take place throughout October and November. The celebration of the Day of the Dead will feature over 200 activities across public squares, theaters, parks, and cemeteries.
Mayor Ale Gutiérrez announced that, for the first time, large-format catrinas and catrines will be installed at key locations, including the Plaza Principal, Plaza Fundadores, Plaza Expiatorio, and the Arco de la Calzada. Key events include the XV Catrinas Contest and VII Catrines Contest on October 30, and the traditional Caminata del Despertar de las Ánimas on November 1.
Cultural offerings managed by the Instituto Cultural de León include musical performances such as Sinfonía de las Ánimas and Réquiem Mexicano. Additionally, the city will host segments of the 54th Cervantino International Festival. Nighttime tours will be held at the San Nicolás Cemetery, though health officials noted these specific tours are restricted to individuals over the age of 15.
