León approves new consumer vouchers to boost local commerce

The León City Council has approved a new round of the 'Bonos Consumo' program to stimulate spending in local retail and hospitality sectors. The initiative includes a direct municipal budget allocation of 150,000 euros, managed through a renewed collaboration agreement with the Chamber of Commerce of León.

Under the program, citizens can purchase vouchers with a 25% subsidy. Vouchers will be available in denominations of 5, 20, and 50 euros. For example, a 50-euro voucher will cost the consumer 37.50 euros, with the City Council providing the remaining 12.50 euros. Sales are scheduled to begin on September 7, 2026, and the program will run until November 7, 2026.

The program is exclusively for small businesses within the municipality of León that employ fewer than ten people, including shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, and ice cream parlors. The initiative excludes gas stations, tobacco sales, street vending, and businesses without a physical commercial location. To ensure an equitable distribution of public funds, redemption is capped at 30,000 euros per retail business and 15,000 euros for hospitality establishments.
