León Bar Association criticizes new legal aid salary agreement

The León Bar Association has described the recent agreement between the General Council of Spanish Lawyers and the Ministry of Justice as “insufficient” regarding salary improvements for legal aid services.

While the institution acknowledged certain advances, it maintains that the negotiated terms do not fully meet the collective's demands. The agreement, which took effect on October 16, updates the fee scales for lawyers working on free legal assistance cases. Under the new structure, complex procedures will be remunerated at 600 euros, class actions at 438.14 euros, general procedures at 400 euros, abbreviated procedures at 291.60 euros, and minor offenses at 102.06 euros.

Positive aspects noted by the León Bar Association include the recognition of remuneration for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods, improved scales for certain criminal law actions, and updated compensation for court appearances. Additionally, the reform expands the groups eligible for legal aid, including victims of terrorism, human trafficking, sexual violence, and certain persons with disabilities.
