León court closes case against former Ambi president after death
The Provincial Court of León has closed the criminal case against José Antonio Fierro, former president of the Asociación de Personas con Discapacidad del Bierzo (Ambi) and Cocemfe León, following his death on August 31, 2026. The court issued an order to extinguish criminal responsibility, effectively halting all investigations and legal proceedings against him.
Prior to his death, the Ponferrada Area Prosecutor's Office had requested a five-year prison sentence for Fierro. He faced charges of violating workers' rights and sexual harassment. The prosecution alleged that between 2008 and 2018, Fierro operated a system where employees were forced to return portions of their salaries through cash deposits or envelopes. The total civil liability claimed for unpaid wages was set at 84,792 euros.
Additionally, Fierro was accused of sexual harassment involving a female employee. The prosecution alleged he attempted to initiate a romantic relationship with her and subsequently refused to renew her contract after she declined. For the harassment charge, the prosecutor sought a 14-month fine.
