León groundwater shows no general alteration after 2025 wildfires

The Duero Hydrographic Confederation (CHD) has reported that there is no general or lasting alteration to the groundwater in León following the 2025 wildfires. While monitoring conducted between late 2024 and spring 2026 identified certain "punctual signals" and variations, the organization stated these do not currently indicate a deterioration of the chemical state of the water masses.

The CHD noted that it cannot unequivocally attribute specific substances or variations to the fires that affected over 36,000 hectares. Because the impact of surface ash on groundwater can be delayed as rainwater carries particles into the soil, the organization intends to maintain monitoring at key points, particularly after new recharge periods, to determine if these variations persist or revert.
