León hosts basketball tribute to Urbano González for ALS research

A basketball friendly match between Real Madrid and Baskonia was held at the Palacio de los Deportes de León to honor the memory of Urbano González Escapa. González, a former basketball player, firefighter, and beekeeper, passed away in January following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The event served a charitable purpose, with all proceeds from ticket sales and donations directed to the Spanish Foundation for the Promotion of ALS Research. During the ceremony, Mayor José Antonio Diez presented González’s jersey to his widow, Ana Carlota Amigo, and his brother, Miguel ‘Tito’ González.

González had been a vocal advocate for ALS awareness throughout his illness, even publishing the book ‘La abeja que enfermó de ELA’ to support research efforts.
