León hosts launch of fourth American Sports Week
The fourth edition of the American Sports Week has officially launched in León, Mexico, serving as the starting point for a continental initiative. Promoted by the Network of Sport and Development Cities (Red D+D), the program aims to foster physical activity, social inclusion, and healthy habits through a month-long agenda of events.
This edition features the participation of 58 municipalities and localities across 14 countries, including new additions from Panama and Bolivia. The initiative seeks to surpass previous participation records, following a 2025 edition that reached over eight million people through various sports and recreational activities.
The opening ceremony included representatives from international organizations such as UNESCO, the Organization of American States (OAS), the Americas Paralympic Committee, and ACES América. Isaac Piña Valdivia, director of COMUDE León and president of the Red D+D, emphasized the importance of creating healthy environments through collaborative international efforts.
