León launches express bus route to UNAM campus

The Municipality of León inaugurated an express public‑transport line (route E‑05) on 10 August, linking the Timoteo Lozano Transfer Station with the UNAM León campus. The service runs two weekday morning trips (6:55 a.m. and 7:25 a.m.), makes only two stops – Central de Abastos and Prevención Social – and cuts travel time by up to 25 % (about 15 minutes). Municipal president Alejandra Gutiérrez Campos highlighted the improvement for students, faculty and local residents, estimating the line will serve roughly 130 passengers daily.

León’s Mobility Directorate plans additional express routes, including a proposed line to the Héroes de León neighbourhood and a third undefined service, to expand rapid‑transit options across the city. Transport coordinator Daniel Villaseñor Moreno and UNAM León director Salvador Andrade Ortiz praised the new line for easing commutes and improving quality of life.
