León Mayor seeks water security amid state aqueduct uncertainty

Alejandra Gutiérrez Campos, the Mayor of León, stated that the municipal government has not yet been informed of the two alternatives to the Solís-León Aqueduct currently being analyzed by the State Government to ensure water supply in the industrial corridor.

While these state-level projects are under study, the local government is focusing on independent measures to secure water resources. These include infrastructure renewal, the regularization of wells, and the implementation of nanotechnology for water treatment. The Mayor noted that the city aims to avoid dependency on single large-scale projects, citing previous instances, such as the El Zapotillo Dam, where water intended for León was redirected to Guadalajara.

Additionally, the municipal water utility, Sapal, will continue replacing pipes to improve network efficiency, which currently stands above the national average at over 70%.
