León music conservatory opening delayed to 2027

The opening of the new Professional Music Conservatory of León has been delayed until the 2027/2028 academic year. This postponement follows several previous setbacks for the project, which was originally intended to replace the Santa Nonia center.

Regional authorities from the Junta de Castilla y León have acknowledged difficulties in the final stages of construction. Officials, including Education Councilor María Pardo and regional delegate Eduardo Diego, cited various obstacles such as contract terminations and rising costs for raw materials and energy. These economic pressures, linked to global instability, have contributed to significant hurdles for public works in the province.

The new 4,800-square-meter facility is expected to feature over 40 classrooms, specialized booths, and an auditorium. While a new investment of more than 5.6 million euros was approved in October 2024 to resume work, the total estimated investment for the project is approximately 10 million euros.
