León prepares for record participation in 10KM running race
The 15th edition of the 10KM Hyundai León Cuna del Parlamentarismo running race is scheduled for Sunday, October 18. The event expects a record turnout with approximately 5,000 total participants, including 1,900 runners in the main 10KM category. Notably, 650 participants are traveling from outside the province, and female participation has risen to approximately 30% of the 10KM entrants.
Due to ongoing construction on Calle Ancha near the Cathedral, the race route has been modified and the finish line moved to Avenida de los Cubos at the intersection with Calle Pontón. This new course has been officially approved by the Real Federación Española de Atletismo (RFEA).
Local traffic will be significantly affected between 9:15 and 12:30. The route starts at Paseo del Parque near the Campo Hípico and passes through major urban areas including Calle Corredera, Avenida de Independencia, Ordoño II, and the San Marcos area. Some sections, such as Avenida de Condesa de Sagasta and Avenida de Reyes Leonesas, will see runners moving in the opposite direction of standard traffic flow.
Key competitors include three-time champion Jorge Blanco, alongside Andrea Jaén, Pere Mas, Samuel Barrios, and Marco Pérez.
