León province to host congress on theater and cinema heritage

A congress focused on the architectural heritage and sociocultural impact of theaters and cinemas in the province of León will take place from September 21 to 24. The event is hosted at the Palacio Conde Luna de León, the UNED Ponferrada center, and the Teatro Bergidum.

The gathering commemorates two significant milestones: the 75th anniversary of the Teatro Emperador in León and the 30th anniversary of the reopening of the Teatro Bergidum in Ponferrada. Organized by UNED Ponferrada, the Cátedra de Territorios Sostenibles y Desarrollo Local, and the Instituto de Estudios Patrimoniales Concha Casado, the forum aims to promote the conservation and rehabilitation of these historic buildings.

The program includes a book presentation, academic lectures, roundtables, and technical visits to emblematic sites in La Bañeza, Astorga, Val de San Lorenzo, and Villafranca del Bierzo. Discussions will cover topics such as rural cinemas, the evolution of local venues, and the urgency of restoring the Teatro Emperador.
