León reports lower-than-average crime rate for first half of 2026
León recorded 9,166 criminal offenses during the first half of 2026, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior. The province's crime rate stands at 40.5 offenses per thousand inhabitants, which is ten points lower than the national average of 50.5.
Law enforcement agencies resolved 3,745 offenses, a 3.9% increase compared to the previous year, while arrests and investigations rose by 5.2% to 1,717. Notable decreases were observed in intentional homicides and murders, which fell by 75% from four cases in the first half of 2025 to one in the same period this year.
In terms of cybercrime, the province registered 2,565 offenses, including a 4.5% increase in computer fraud, though other crimes in this category decreased by 13%. In the capital of León, serious offenses involving injuries and violent robberies also saw significant declines.
