Mexico: Teacher and police officers receive prison sentences

In Guanajuato, Mexico, preschool teacher María Guadalupe “N” has been sentenced to six years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated sexual abuse against several students. The crimes occurred at the Juan Enrique Pestalozzi kindergarten in León, where the teacher allegedly used a dynamic called “el juego del pato” to commit sexual assaults and inflict physical and psychological punishment on children. Following the conviction, the teacher has been dismissed from her position and barred from teaching for the duration of her sentence.

In a separate criminal case in Jalisco, a woman and two municipal police officers were sentenced to ten years in prison for human trafficking. The group was caught attempting to recruit young people from Michoacán under the guise of legitimate job offers at a bus terminal in San Pedro Tlaquepaque. The investigation revealed the victims were being funneled to work for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The convicted officers were found to be operating outside their jurisdiction while in uniform and using official patrol vehicles during the recruitment attempt.
