Lena Borislavova: Prosecution appeals acquittal in 'Coral' case

The Bulgarian prosecution has appealed the acquittal of former MP Lena Borislavova in the 'Coral' case. The Sofia City Court has scheduled the second-instance trial for October 2.

Borislavova was previously acquitted by the Sofia Regional Court of charges involving document crimes. The prosecution, however, maintains that the charges are proven and has filed a protest against the decision.

The case stems from allegations made by Atanas Rusev, chairman of the 'Save Coral' association. Rusev claims that in 2021, Borislavova submitted a power of attorney and other documents to the Registry Agency containing his forged signature.

Prosecutors allege these actions were intended to facilitate the timely removal of Kiril Petkov from the management board of 'Save Coral', enabling him to serve as Economy Minister in the first caretaker government under President Rumen Radev.
