Lena Dunham announces ‘Girls’ revival for 2027

Lena Dunham has announced that the HBO series ‘Girls’ will return for a five-episode sequel set in the present day. Production for the new episodes is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027.

Dunham confirmed that the revival will feature original cast members Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells. In a statement, Dunham noted that she had been looking for a specific story to tell and felt the characters began to speak to her around her 40th birthday in May 2026.

The original series aired from 2012 to 2017, covering a significant period of millennial history and cultural shifts. The upcoming revival aims to explore how the characters and the show's themes of sexual and gender politics translate to the current era.
