Lena Samara memorial service held in Athens

A memorial service was held at the First Cemetery of Athens to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Lena Samara, the 34-year-old daughter of former Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

The ceremony was attended by the Samaras family, including Antonis, his wife Georgia Kritiki, and their son Kostas, as well as relatives and close friends. Several prominent political figures were also present, including Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias and New Democracy Secretary Konstantinos Kyriakakis. Former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, who was abroad, sent his condolences via telephone.

Lena Samara passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2025. Following initial medical attention at Sismanogleio Hospital, she was transferred to Evangelismos Hospital, where she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during medical evaluations. In the days leading up to the memorial, her brother Kostas shared a childhood family photograph on social media, accompanied by red hearts and the infinity symbol to honor her memory.
